A Note on Beauty and Identity
1-2 minute read
Beauty is a complicated thing, and it’s funny to think that everyone’s perspective on it isn’t the same. It’s a thing that comes and goes and changes through time. It’s something difficult to put into words: there isn’t a set definition for beauty because everyone thinks of it in a different way. Yes, and even if the dictionary tells us that it’s a noun and that it’s a combination of qualities, such as shape, color, or form, that pleases the aesthetic senses, especially the sight, still, it doesn’t tell us much.
And living in the world we live in today, beauty became some sort of measurement for our worth. I’m sure we can all understand how we first perceive someone influences the way we think about them — it’s always based on looks. But, I think it’s so important to know that we can’t weigh beauty on a scale.
You know, there must be something buried underneath that beauty. A pearl. Something more precious than our shell. That pearl is our identity — our identity is who we are as a person; what sets us apart from the world; and it’s what shines through. As cheesy as it sounds: it makes you, you.
We shouldn’t judge oysters based on their surface, our quest should be finding that precious, special, unique pearl hidden inside one’s shell. Beauty is a reflection of our identity, and, guess what? Our identity is priceless.
